Syrinscape is awesome...
So, I told Benjamin that I'd post some positive feedback about Syrinscape, as I've been using it since the launch of 4e, with varied success. I also gave him a bunch of feedback that led to the interface changes seen in 2.5, including the simple addition of play & stop buttons.
The first thing I used it for was an Expedition to Castle Ravenloft adventure I had converted to 4e. I used to play World of Warcraft, and I love their sound design and music in the game, so I elected to tap it for sound files. I elected to set up different ambient loops for each major area in the adventure (Village, Swamp, Forest, Mountain, Vistani Camp, Waterfall, Castle, and Dungeon), but use the same musical cues (the music found along the border to Eversong Wood and Ghostlands; moody violin music) throughout the entire campaign. I also included whispering sound clips from the WoW boss C'thun, who whispers such gems as "You are already dead," explaining to players that noticed them that they were whispers from the Land, due to Strahd's connection to the Land.
It was a big success. The ambient noise helped players visualize the area better, and led to a greater use of terrain to their advantage because of it. The music really helped set the mood, as I often saw players tense up when the cues would kick in. The combat music I used when we were fighting helped keep up the pacing, making sure that nobody spent too long thinking instead of acting.
I would highly recommend using it and giving him feedback, so he can make it even better and easier to use.
